Ogun: Abiodun Promises Financial Independence To Local Government Councils

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has pledged his administration’s continuous support and financial independence to  Local Government councils’ administration.

He said that all efforts would be made to strengthen the Council areas and give them financial independence to enable them perform and deliver democracy dividends to the grassroots dewellers.

Governor Abiodun stated this in his Office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, when he received a team from the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC, Abuja,

The Governor noted  that his administration acknowledged the  important role and closeness of local government administration to the grassroot, hence the need to ensure their financial independence .

Represented by his Deputy, Engr. (Mrs. Noimot Salako-oyedele, the Governor said, “the local government is very important to our administration because it is the closest to the grassroot and we are passionate about making sure that people feel the impact of good governance through them

” We will continue to do that to make sure that we deliver on our promises to our people in building our future together’, he said.

Prince Abiodun said since the State was the  industrial capital of the country, his administration was committed to increasing its Investment base, assuring the Commission of government’s support to complete its  task.

Earlier in his remark, the leader of the delegation and  the Federal Commissioner, Osun State, Mr. Oladele Gboyega applauded the State  government for giving local government administrators free hand to run the  affairs of the council areas, informing the Governor  that the Commission was in the State to review the revenue allocation indices to be use in allocating money from the Federation account to the three tiers of governments.

Gboyega also hinted that the review was in three stages which included sensitization, collation and verification of data, noting that there was no need for the State government to engage a third party or a consultant in the collation of  data to be submitted to the commission.

” I want to thank the governor for giving the local government the allocation that they deserve,” he said.

The Federal Commissioner for Osun state had on his entourage, the Federal Commissioner for Ogun State; Mr. Adebayo Fari, Director, Fiscal Efficiency; Tanimu Aliyu, Zonal Coordinator, Lagos Zone; Mrs. Lami Zorto, Folorunso Ade, Jalo Yuguda, Olujobi Augusta, Abubakar Gabdo and Suleiman Adigambo.
