Veteran coach and ex- international, Loveday Omoruyi  has joined the legion of Nigerian ex- players and coaches  calling on the Super Eagles gaffer, Gernot Rohr  to reconsider his stand on home based players , insisting that there are many quality players in the country’s  top flight.

In an interview with NNsports, the former Julius Berger of Lagos gaffer,  questioned the rationale behind the Franco- German tactician believing that he can only get quality players abroad; saying that  such a stand cannot help in the development of the country’s football.

” I’m surprised that Gernot Rohr has not changed his perception about our home based players and now that he is planning for the Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers his body language has not indicated he will give the home based players chance in his team.

” He should be told that  we have quality players in our League . All he need to do is to visit most of the League venues  or send his assistants to scout for players for him locally. We cannot continue to rely on foreign based professionals  to play all our matches  because it can never help us.

Omoruyi while agreeing that every coach has the right to chose any player that he believes will give him the desired result, insisted that he can get such players here .

” I’m not saying that 70 or 80 % of his players  will be home based but all am saying is that  he can pick two or three locally as that’s the only way to encourage them and make them have sense of belonging  as well as give them adequate exposure”, he concluded.
