Mother of a University of Benin undergraduate, Chinenye Promise Nwoye who was recently strangled to death inside Akuu Hotel in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State has accused the hotel management of complicity in the death of her daughter.

Nwoye, an indigene of Iruokpala Village in Abba, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state was reportedly strangled to death by an unknown person inside room 57 at Akuu hotel.

Narrating their side of the story, Mrs Chinyere Nwoye and a member of her family fellowship, Jude Okoye said they had to rush to Akuu Hotel shortly after the deceased reached out through a phone call that she was in danger and needed her ATM pin number to free herself from kidnappers.

While saying her daughter’s corpse has been deposited at Bekee Mortuary in Nimo, she added, “I suspect the hotel workers on the death of my daughter. God will pay back whoever that killed my daughter in his or her coin. What did she do to deserve this cruelty”.

She appealed for government’s intervention and that of the human rights groups to bring justice for her daughter

It was gathered that before her death on August 27, 2020, the deceased who was on scholarship at UNIBEN, had opted for computer lessons to keep herself busy at a neighboring town, following the closure of schools as a result CoronaVirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that suspects including a staff of the hotel, who were reportedly arrested by the police over the incident have been released, fueling suspicion that some influential people are trying to sweep the incident under the carpet.

In his reaction, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed said that only one suspect was arrested over the incident and not two.

He said the case has been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID), for discreet investigation.
