Former Minister of Aviation, and Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Chief Femi Fani-Kayode on Sunday advised the Federal Government to do better than it is currently doing in tackling the hardship facing Nigerians, while opening up on the real sponsor of his tour.
Chief Fani-Kayode gave the advice in Ibadan while addressing a press conference after his tour of projects embarked upon by Governor Seyi Makinde in and across Oyo State.
He stressed that the timing of the hike in the pump price of petrol as well as the increment of electricity tarrif was improper considering the effects of COVID-19 on the economy and the people in general.
“The prices and hike are unacceptable in any civilized society. And at a time that COVID -19 has just afflicted the nation and our people, governments all over the world are offering palliatives to their people to ensure that the effects of COVID-19, apart from it on health, it also has on the economy and the people, they are trying to ameliorate that to ensure that the people do not go down, and do not suffer the consequencies of the terrible disease”, he said.
The PDP Chieftain added, “but, in Nigeria, the opposite has happened. Even though we have the consequencies of COVID-19 and covid is still with us, we also have the heavy yoke of economic depression and complete destruction of our economy, high prices, fuel prices are high, electricity prices are high, everything has shut up and in some cases, up to 200 percent, how do you explain that and how do you expect the average income earner or those who don’t have work to be able to afford a bag of rice.”
“It is really a sad situation and I really want to urge the federal government to do their best and do far better than they are doing. I am not going to sit here and attack anybody, this is not about partisan politics here, it is about our nation, it is about our people, the quality of life of our people”.
On the motive behind his on going tour of some states in the country, Chief Fani Kayode who said he has visited Zamfara, Sokoto, Enugu, Anambra Ebonyi, and Cross Rivers state said he has been the one sponsoring the tour ” to have first hand views on issues so as to make an informed comments and remarks when writing or speaking on issues as it relates to the country”.
“For me, it is important to be able to make decision, write articles, make commentaries and even involve myself in commentaries. And also contribute to the political dynamics of the country and evolving situation in our country and I’ll like to be able to make assertions based on facts, not on what I have been told or what I read from the newspapers or see on the television but what I see with my own eyes.” .
Commenting on his tour of Oyo state, Chief Fani-Kayode declared that with what he meant on ground, it was glaring that Governor Makinde meant well for Oyo state and would soon transform the state, what you are seeing on ground presently are the beginning of good things to come in the state.
Specifically, Chief Fani-Kayode said, “Gov Makinde really mean business, by December, you will see good things coming into the state. The governor will transform infrastructure situation in Oyo state. “
” I am very impressed with all what I saw, if he continues this way, Oyo state will be very great. Ibadan is in transformation stage, he wants to turn Ibadan into modern age. He should continue with the good work, he should allow himself to be intimidated”.
