Rivers State Governor, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has observed that political leaders such as governors need the support and advise of critical stakeholders, especially traditional rulers to enable them propel the wheels of development in their respective states.
The Governor was speaking in Bauchi State when he paid a homage to the Emir, Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu weekend during Wike’s visit to flag-off roads construction project invited by his host state, Governor Bala Mohammed.
Wike told the Bauchi emir, “Your Royal Highness, today Iam in Bauchi because of the respect to my friend and very respected colleague, the Governor of Bauchi state, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed. For me as a person, today is my second time of coming to Bauchi”.
Barr. Wike described the emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu as respected traditional ruler in the country, asking the host “Please don’t hesitate to call us to order whenever the need arise because we politicians have so much pressure on us”.
He therefore pleaded with the emir to assist his Bauchi state counterpart, Governor Bala Mohammed to be on the right track of meeting the needs and aspirations of the people, particularly in areas of economic, social and cultural milieu.
Wike, accompanied to the palace by his host, commended Governor Bala Mohammed for the tremendous achievements he recorded within such a short period of one year, despite the lean resources from the federation account to the states.
Barrister Nyesom Wike further commended his host, saying, “Senator Bala Mohammed has done so well to me and on behalf of the Government and people of Rivers to say that, we are happy to associate with Bauchi Governor”.
He also hailed members of the State Legislature, particularly Speaker Abubakar Yakubu Suleiman for supporting his colleague in steering the ship of the state despite being in the opposition political party, just for the benefit and well-being of the people of Bauchi state.
Wike said, “Mr. Speaker and other members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, I must commend you for supporting your governor despite being in the opposition, but you decided to remain supportive to the governor for the interest of Bauchi people”.
Senator Bala Mohammed had earlier during introduction described Governor Wike as one of the best performing governor, especially in deepening stake holding and working for the interest of his people, adding “Wike is one of the persons that is making history, building bridges and developing Nigeria, somebody who believes in the corporate existence of Nigeria”.
Bala said, “Wike has personally helped me in my life as a friend, we have worked together in the cabinet of former president Goodluck Jonathan and now he is my senior colleague in the Governors’ Forum”, and commended traditional rulers for supporting his government to open new township roads in Bauchi metropolis.
The Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu has while responding reassured the support of his council to the state government in order to succeed in the delivery of democracy dividends.
Adamu expressed appreciation for the good relationship existing between the two governors, and acknowledged their contributions towards the growth and development of the country.
