COVID-19: FRSC Advises Motorists To Adhere To Safety Protocols

The Unit Commander of Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, Adeboye Gboyega has advised motorists to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols on the road to cushion the effects of the pandemic in the state.

Gboyega who also in his remarks while issuing Certificates to Fleet Operators in the Area on Wednesday, warned motorists not to carry more than three passengers in a car in order to maintain social distancing in the vehicles.

“We are battling with COVID-19 pandemic; motorists should adhere to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC/FRSC protocols in maintaining standard guidelines in interstate transportation.

“If you are supposed to carry six passengers before in a vehicle, reduced it to three passengers to cushion the spread of the virus,” he said.

He noted that there are 25 fleet operators, out of which eight were issued certificate of recognition in Eket and its environs.

Gboyega explained that the drivers were given a periodic enlightenment before issuing certificate to them, saying that by doing, the roads would be safe with incessant occurrence of Road Transport Safety Standard (RTSS).

He urged the certified fleet operators to adhere to the law of safety requirements standard on the road, saying that the fleet operators would be used to maintain safety standard on the road.

He observed that adherence to the safety standard would go a long way in prolonging the life span of their vehicles and curtailing unnecessary economic waste.

The Unit Commander advised fleet operators to chide away with bad attitude and chart a new course by embracing RTSS requirements on the roads.

He called on them to give their personnel direct access in examine vehicle conditions, garage condition and also release their drivers for sensitisation in the area.

“Under the regulations of RTSS, the FRSC have the right to sue them to court for not adhering to this,” the Unit Commander said.

Responding on behave of the Fleet Operators, Mr. John Okon, representing Villa Marina Hotels promised that he would abide with the rules and regulations of road transport safety standard.
