Newly appointed Commissioner of Information and Strategy in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Ini Ememobong, has assumed duty and solicited the cooperation of journalists in the state to enhance his performance.

The new information boss sought for stronger collaboration and partnership with the media in Akwa Ibom state in order to move the state forward and bring more democratic dividends to bear in the state

He urged journalists to be objective, balance and factual in their reportage to move the state forward.

“Let not confrontation be in the forefront of our engagement, but consultation to keep the state united.

“There is no need to destroy Akwa Ibom State out of anger; our state must be different because it was in the forefront of state creation.

“That is why development of Akwa Ibom state should be our watchword, the Governor cannot govern the state without the media, because it is so strategic that the media can make life difficult for a strong leader,” Ememobong said.

Responding, the State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom Council, Comrade Amos Etuk, described the appointment of Ememobong into the information ministry as divine.

Etuk pledged the Union’s readiness to work in partnership with the Commissioner preferably in an atmosphere of free flow of information in the state.

He said that journalists in the state would continue to perform the role of being the watchdog of the society and reporting objectively.

“Your appointment and posting is a clear testimony of the grace of God upon us as a Union, especially, as it coincides with the first year anniversary of this present leadership.

“Your appointment in this portfolio comes at a critical time in our global history with the challenge of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“As such your commitment to hit the ground running is strategic, as we chart a new course for stronger information management aimed at the development of the state.
