Ahead of this year’s ember months, the Federal Fire Service is set to liaise with the Akwa Ibom State Government on the prevention of fire outbreaks as the period which signifies the festive season draw close.
The State Deputy Controller of the Federal Fire Service Zone E, covering Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers States, Mr. Philip Odu sought for the partnership during a courtesy call on the State Government on Tuesday in Uyo.
Odu who appreciated the state government for the donation of a large parcel of land as office accommodation, appealed for support in the areas of mobility and furnishing.
“As part of our preparations ahead of incidences of fire outbreak during the ember months, the Federal Fire Service is seeking the partnership of the Akwa Ibom State Government to intensify fire prevention in the state,” he said.
In his response, Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem appreciated the proposed partnership, saying the government is ready to partner with them.
He charged the agency to make use of the assistance already given by government, noting that Governor Udom Emmanuel attaches seriousness to the Fire Service.
He said the decision of the State Government to attach the Fire Service to the Ministry of Works is a demonstration of the importance of the agency to the government.
“On behalf of the Akwa Ibom State Government, I appreciate the partnership you have proposed. The government is ready to partner with you. But you must first make use of the assistance we have given you.
“Governor Udom Emmanuel attaches importance to the fire service, that is why the State Government has attached the fire service to the Ministry of Works,” he stated.
