Immediate past Senator representing Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani, has condemned the killings in Southern Kaduna allegedly perpetrated by the Fulani militias.
Senator Shehu Sani also affirmed his support for SOKAPU against the genocide in Southern Kaduna.
A statement from the National Public Relations Officer of Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU, Mr Luka Binniyat, said Senator Shehu Sani made the position known while on visit to the National secretariat of SOKAPU.
Sen. Shehu Sani, immediate past Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone of Kaduna state, yesterday paid a courtesy visit to the National Headquarters of Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) in Kaduna and affirmed his support for SOKAPU against the genocide in Southern Kaduna.
Senator Shehu Sani said that he always aligned with any group of people that face cruelty, genocide, massacre and all kinds of atrocities, stressing that it is the moral duty of every man of conscience to lend his or her voice.
He added that he had spoken against the killings in Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Niger, Taraba states and other killings in other states in the country that are facing similar evils.
“You can’t rationalize or give excuses for an act of genocide, cruelty, mass murder and execution of human being,” he submitted.
Senator Sani noted that there is no justification for such an evil act, adding, “I speak in condemning the killings in other parts, it is the same way we have to speak against what is happening in Southern Kaduna.”
Irrespective of religion, tribe or section, Senator Shehu Sani noted that one voice must be heard clearly, explicitly and unambiguously in condemning the killings going on, saying, “We must not shy away from the truth.”
According to him, SOKAPU must not waver in its struggle and it must not falter, advising that the people of Southern Kaduna should not give up in standing and speaking for the truth to power.
He observed that the ethnic nationalities of Southern Kaduna can not claim any other part of the country as theirs, stressing that there is need for them to follow all constitutional means to defend and protect their God given territorial integrity.
Responding, the President of SOKAPU, Comrade Jonathan Asake, thanked Senator Shehu Sani for sympathizing and identifying with the people of Southern Kaduna in the situation they found themselves.
He said that Sen. Sani’s voice before, during and after in the Senate had been consistent on speaking for the suppressed and for justice and fairness of the human race irrespective of any different.
Mr Asake emphasized, “You are one of the few voices in the country that have refused to betray the course of justice even when you ascended into governance.”
He lamented that Kaduna state had never been so divided at any time like under the present government of Governor Nasir el-Rufai, accusing him of using the religious and ethnic fault lines for political gains.
He then called on all the indigenes and residents of Kaduna state to join hands and seek for a solution to the violence in the state.
