It was celebration galore in ECWA Good News Church, Abuja street, Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, when members trooped in their numbers giving thanks to God Almighty for His wonders upon their lives in the year 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was a mid-year 2020 harvest Thanksgiving service unto to the Lord on the theme, “Worship of Thanksgiving to God in the midst of COVID-19”.
While giving thanks to God Almighty for every reason to celebrate the goodness of the creator, the Minister-in-charge, Rev. Ephraim Y. Piyak said, “l challenge every one seated here to humbly empty himself/herself of any pride that might be deceiving us that our survival from COVID-19 and the menace of insecurity in our country is as a result of our self-sufficiency or self righteousness and accept the free love of God in Christ Jesus.
“He came to save us from our past, present and future sins so that He can make us heir of His kingdom and a royal priesthood to declare His glory to our generation.”
He enjoined all present during the Thanksgiving service, saying, “As you take decision to offer your substance to the Lord, remember that your life and health that is given to you by God is priceless. Therefore, give Him a priceless sacrifice this morning.”
Rev. Piyak reminded the congregation that the purpose of the celebration was to show their appreciation to God for His unfailing love to everyone by keeping them alive from January, 2020 to date.
He noted, “In our limited wisdom and knowledge, we began the journey of the year 2020 with lot of dreams, visions and goals both for individuals and as a Church without a slightest idea of what lays ahead. None of us knew that the news we heard in late December, 2019 concerning an outbreak of COVID-19 in Wuhan, China would come to us.
“Lo and behold by the last week of March 2020, Kaduna state government imposed a lockdown measure across the state. This brought to our door post the reality of the war against Coronavirus. We panicked about the virus and it’s effects, we became like people walking through the shadow of deaths yet we were not consumed.
“Our loving God kept us safe under His wings. It was with a similar experience of the unflinching love of God to His people that prophet Isa’ah asked, ‘With whom, then, will you compare God? To what image will you liken Him?”
Rev. Piyak noted that if COVID-19 and its negative effects were to eliminate all the spiritually weak and sinful people from the surface of the earth, how many of those seated in the Church would have been alive, stressing that for the unparalleled merciful God to have spared their lives, and to declare His unconditional love to them so that no one could boast that his/her survival is dependent on his/her righteousness.
The chairman of the harvest Thanksgiving committee, Elder Yakubu B. Kanwai, thanked the Almighty God for His wonderful love and protection shown unto all for being alive amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
The speaker, Rev. A. A. Bello, who took his reading from Psalm chapter 103, emphasized the wanders of God to humanity and the benefits man seeks to derive in praising God Almighty with a sincere heart.
