The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus has called on Nigerians to be united in fervent prayers to God in order for the country to produce selfless leaders who will pilot the affairs with a direction.
Speaking on Saturday in Uyo during the commissioning of the 1,000- seating capacity PDP State Secretariat, Prince Secondus said that for what Nigeria was currently going through, only God’s intervention through prayer can bring breakthrough.
Prince Secondus, who, in his goodwill message said that the country was in need of truthful, honest and trusted leaders, posited that the nation currently is like a “ship without a captain and direction”.
The National PDP Chairman, who however, attributed the completion of the new state secretariat of the party to the leadership role of Governor Udom Emmanuel, described the secretariat as one of the best in the country, and competing with the national secretariat.
While commending the sterling leadership qualities of Governor Emmanuel, Prince Secondus stated that the PDP has the best governors in the country as their achievements were a confirmation of their leadership prowess.
“With this Secretariat which is competing with the National Secretariat of our Party in Abuja, Your Excellency, it shows the manifestation of your leadership. When you show leadership by example and your followers show faith in their leaders, it means the leader has done well.
“I can see you are a leader that has shown leadership and your followers are following you with curiosity, and they have seen the works you have shown in Akwa Ibom State.
“Our Country today needs leaders who will be truthful, honest and trusted and by the grace of God you are one of them. The PDP has shown clearly that we have the best governors because of the roll call of achievements and the country can confirm what they have seen.
“Without good leadership, you cannot have this Secretariat. Our County needs a lot of prayers. A country with no direction, without a captain, we need a lot of prayers. You all know what we are going through. We need God’s intervention.
“What we must emphasize today is to build institutions. What we must do in this country is to groom young people that will become leaders to take over the leadership. Akwa Ibom has done well in that regard”, Prince Secondus stated.
Also speaking, Governor Udom Emmanuel, who said party members were looking up to PDP at the National level to take over governance of the country, expressed optimism that the party was still waxing strong.
Emmanuel explained that the new Party Secretariat was completed with 100 percent direct labour, adding that the outgoing State PDP Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo has achieved his purpose through the completion of the Secretariat.
He said it would have been unfair if the PDP did not have the Secretariat in Akwa Ibom since it has been the only party that has moved the state forward.
He stated that the Akan Offot – Aka Etinan road with side drains was constructed to create access into the Secretariat.
In his address, the outgoing PDP State Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo, said his predecessor in office, Prince Uwem Ita Etuk laid the foundation for Secretariat by acquiring the land and guided him to access to the site.
Ekpo said that barely two years into his first term in office as chairman that he on July 16, 2014 initiated the construction the building with ground breaking/foundation laying ceremony performed by the then National Chairman of the Party, Alh. Adamu Mauzu while the then Governor Godswill Akpabio was in attendance.
He commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for being a pillar of strength for him and for mobilising financial support for the completion of the State Secretariat.
Obong Ekpo who was elated over the achievement, appreciated God’s benevolence and lauded the supports of other leaders of the party in the state that saw to the completion of the Secretariat.
He assured his successor in office, Obong Udo Ekpeyong and his executive members that the Secretariat was fit and conducive for them to use as they continue to steer the ship of the party to greater heights.
