A small scale farmer in Kano State, Alhaji Adamu Mai Gemu has called on Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to investigate the sales of the fertilizer that is being blended by state’s agricultural supply company known as KASCO in order to ensure that the people that were authorised to sell the commodity are following due process during the sales.
He made the call in an interview with our correspondent, adding that those who were given the task to sell the fertilizer are sabotaging the subsidy by illegally diverting the commodity to marketers where they sell it at high prices, between N5,500 to N6,500 higher than the approved government subsidized rate of 5,000 Naira only.
Alhaji Mai Gemu lamented that, “This year, farmers are facing difficulty in getting subsidized fertilizer which is a great set back to food production programme, while the marketers continue selling the commodity at very high prices than expected, and I hope that the Kano Governor would intervene and bring everything into order”.
Speaking on President Buhari’s policy on agriculture, Mai Gemu expressed optimism that Nigeria is gradually moving to the next level in food production, especially when the apex Bank introduced various credit disbursements to farmers in accordance with their crops clusters at both dry and rainy seasons.
He called on the Kano Government to come to the aid of small and large scale farmers.
