Governor Emmanuel Lauds Akwa Ibom SWAN, Pledges Partnership

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel on Sunday commended Sports Writers in the state for acknowledging God at the centre of their affairs

Governor Emmanuel gave the commendations at a Special Worship Session organized by Akwa Ibom State Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

The session was organized for members of SWAN in the state to thank God for their successful and peaceful conduct of elections in February, this year and for the provisions of life to members as well as rededicate the state new executive council and entire members of the Association to God.

It was conducted under strict compliance with CAN-Stipulated guidelines against the spread of Covid-19, held at The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Four Towns Assembly, Uyo.

Represented by Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Sir Monday Uko, Governor Emmanuel noted that SWAN in Akwa Ibom was bound to succeed because, “No one fails after recognizing God in whatever they do”.

While congratulating the new State Executive Council of SWAN for their victory at the February-5 polls, Mr. Emmanuel charged them to be magnanimous in victory by operating an all-inclusive leadership regardless of the political interests of members.

The sports-loving Governor pounced on the opportunity to call for synergy between SWAN and Government in the promotion of sports in the state noting that his administration has achieved a lot in the area of sports

The Governor also pledged support to the developmental plans of the church and urged churches in the state to keep remembering government in their prayers.

In his earlier remarks, the State Chairman of SWAN, Comrade Emmanuel Akpan thanked God for the successes his administration has recorded so far and expressed gratitude to the Governor for honouring SWAN by attending the event.

The event was attended by the Deputy Chief Whip of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Otuekong Nse Essien, the Commissioner for Environment and Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ekong Sampson, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports and Chairman of Akwa United Football Club, Elder Paul Bassey, DIG Udom Ekpoudom (retired), the State Chairman of ALGON, Mr. Frank Archibong who was represented by the Executive Chairman of Mkpat Enin, Mr. Ekanem Brown and the Executive Chairman of Onna, Mr. Imo Attat.

Others were, the State Council Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Amos Etuk, the South-South Vice President of SWAN, Prince Bonny Nyong, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mrs. Mary Bassey, the State Director of Sports, Coach Lawrence Iquaibom, the Secretary of Inter-Ministerial and Direct-Labour Coordinating Committee, Mr. Champion Albert, the Chairman of Dakkada Football Club, Coach Aniedi Dickson, the State Chairman of Super Eagles Supporters Club, Evangelist Fred Dan and an amalgam of Special Assistants and Personal Assistants to the Governor as well as sports publishers and broadcasters.

Special highlights on the occasion was an intercessory prayer for SWAN members in the state by the Area Superintendent of the Church, Apostle Prince Etim who also commended the Association for recognizing God first in their chosen profession as journalists, noting that, the act of thanksgiving to God by mankind for all He has done, is a worthy sacrifice pleasing unto God.
