An official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has reportedly killed himself after stabbing his lover.
Our correspondent reliably learnt that the deceased personnel reportedly committed the act following allegations of infidelity against the woman..
Identified as Emmanuel Mekun, 47, the late LASTMA official reportedly stabbed the lover named Patricia Ogunshola, aged 37 years with a jack knife on her right thigh before stabbing himself in the stomach.
Following the severity of the stab, it was learnt that his intestines gushed out, resulting in his instant death.
The Police public relations officer DSP Bala Elkana, while confirming the incident said it occurred on Sunday 5th July 2020 at about 1.00pm at Zoo area, in Araromi area of Morogbo in Olorunda Local Council Development Area of the state.
He disclosed that homicide detectives, who were drafted to the scene, rushed the injured woman to the hospital for medical attention, adding that she is currently in stable condition.
Elkana added that the corpse of the deceased person has been evacuated to mortuary for autopsy.
According to the police image maker, a blood stained knife was recovered from the scene.
Elkana hinted that preliminary investigation revealed that the couple started cohabiting in February, 2020, but not legally married.
Further, he said investigation revealed that there was a protracted argument between the couple that degenerated into physical assault purported to have arose from allegations bothering on infidelity on the part of the man.
His words, ” On 05/07/2020 at about 0100 hours, Morogbo Police Station received a distress call from Zoo area, Araromi that one Emmanuel Mekuri ‘m’ 47 years old, a LASTMA personnel stabbed his lover, Patricia Ogunshola ‘f’ 37 years old, on her right thigh, with a Jack knife. Alarm was raised by the 13 years old daughter of the woman (whom she got from a previous marriage), which drew the attention of neighbours to the scene.
In her statement, the girl stated that the deceased person, whom she referred to as her step father, made further attempts to stab her mother on the head but she quickly ran out of the room. That he subsequently stabbed himself on the stomach, his intestines gushed out and he died on the spot.
On arrival at the scene, homicide detectives preserved the crime scene and rushed the injured woman to the hospital for medical attention. She is currently in stable condition.

Elkana also said the Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command, Hakeem Odumosu has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department Panti, Yaba for discreet investigation.
