The cold relationship between the family of the immediate past governor of Oyo state and the administration of Engineer Seyi Makinde took a new twist on Sunday as the  Oyo state deputy governor, Engineer  Rauf Olaniyan and other delegation of the  state government were barred  from attending the 8 days Fiɗau for late former governor .

New Nigerian reliably gathered that Engineer Olaniyan led the state Commissioner for Lands, Barrister Abiodun Abdul-Raheem and the Commissioner for Energy, Barrister Seun Ashamu, as the Oyo state government delegation to the Oluyole residence of late former governor Abiola Ajimobi, venue of the 8th day Fidau prayer .

The drama started when the securitymen at the gate on sighting the deputy governor’s convoy turned their back with the gate to the Senator Ajimobi residence  put under lock and key .

The security aides to the deputy governor quickly accosted those at the gate to  inform them of the arrival of the Oyo state delegation led by the Deputy governor of the state

All efforts by the deputy governor’s security aides at persuading their colleagues on the need to allow the deputy governor and other members of the delegation in failed as the security men at the gate reportedly insisted on acting on a standing order.

Our Correspondent gathered that it was at this point that one of the deputy governor’s men learnt from a source at the gate that key to the gate was with a top member of the late governor’s immediate family and that the person was not ready to release the key for the Oyo state government delegation to enter into the venue for the prayer.

Having waited for about 25minutes with the gate firmly locked, the deputy governor and other members of the Oyo state government delegation departed the venue as their presence were already attracting attention to the scene

In his reaction to the development,  Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi,  Mr Bolaji Tunji in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday disclosed that the Ajimobi late family were not aware that the Deputy governor or any Oyo state government delegation  will be attending the Fiɗau.

“There is a need to clarify the believed presence of the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan at the 8th day  prayers for His Excellency Senator Abiola Ajimobi,  the immediate past Governor of Oyo State. The event was announced as strictly a family affair. However, some dignitaries arrived for the event prior to the commencement of the prayers and were permitted entry. There was a need to comply with the Covid-19 protocol as established by NCDC – Social distancing, not more than 30 people in a place and seats arranged, accordingly. Once we reached capacity, the gate was locked”, he said.Mr Bolaji Tunji added, “no one was aware that the Deputy Governor was coming as neither the advance team nor the protocol informed us. The Deputy Governor arrived after the prayers had started and once the protocol team was informed they proceeded to the gate. By the time we got to the gate to usher him into the sitting room, he had left. Everything happened within a few minutes”.
“Through a serving Senator and a former Attorney General we tried to get in touch with him that it was not to slight him and he could sit in a private sitting room provided by the family. Unfortunately, he had left. We however apologise to his Excellency”.
