Attempt by five suspected kidnappers to make quick money through kidnapping has landed them in police custody in Lagos.
The suspects, said to be of Fulani extraction were nabbed by police operatives while trying to collect the sum of N10,000,000.00 from the family of thier victim.
According to report, the suspects identified as Umaru Abdullahi, Majuba Mohammed, Aliyu Alhamajo, Mohammed Umaru and Shehu Malami from the northern part of the country had kidnapped the victim one Salisu Mohammed, aged 17 years on 9th May 2020.
Our correspondent gathered that the teenager, who was taken to an unknown place,was kidnapped while sleeping at the cattle rearing centre in Epe.
The suspects were said to have established contact with the family of the victim and demanded the sum of #10,000,000,00 as ransom.
They were however arrested by the Command’s Anti-kidnapping team in Epe, with the victim rescued unhurt on the 13/05/2020, inside a tick forest within Epe without payment of ransom.
The Police Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu confirmed the arrest to journalists while parading the suspects.
His words, ” On 09/05/2020, Epe Police Station received a complaint that, one Salisu Mohammed ‘m’ 17 years old was kidnapped and taken to unknown destination by a group of kidnappers, numbering about five, while he was sleeping at the cattle rearing center Epe.
The kidnappers established contact with the family and demanded the sum of #10,000,000,00 as ransom. The Command’s Anti-kidnapping team was promptly deployed to Epe.
The victim was rescued unhurt on the 13/05/2020, inside a tick forest within Epe without payment of ransom.
All the suspects were arrested. They are Umaru Abdullahi ‘m’; Majuba Mohammed ‘m’; Aliyu Alhamajo ‘m’; Mohammed Umaru ‘m’; and Shehu Malami ‘m’. They confessed to the commission of the crime”.
