The Management of Akwa United FC and players have joined their faith in prayer and called on God for a divine and supernatural intervention as the World and Nigeria in particular battle the scourge of the deadly coronavirus disease.
The converge was the Club Weekly Fasting and Prayer at the Club House in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Interacting through Zoom video conferencing facility, the Club Management and Players expressed believe that the situation the World was currently facing, and which seems to be difficult for man to handle, can only be salvaged by God Almighty.
Addressing the players and officials, Chairman of the Club, Elder Paul Bassey thanked God for keeping every member alive and safe in the midst of the ravaging coronavirus pandemic.
“I wish to sincerely express my gratitude to God Almighty for keeping all of us alive in the face of this challenging situation. Gentlemen, this coronavirus has claimed thousands of lives around the world but here we are, complete as a family, hale and hearty, so we have every reason to thank God for protecting us all.
“I’m particularly happy that we have been able to meet and interact with each other through this zoom technology. It’s wonderful to see all of us in good condition. We will continue to do our best to reach out and stay in touch with every member of this club through this facility as much as possible throughout the period of this nationwide lock down”.
In a brief exhortation, Pastor Anietie Walter who took his Bible reading from Isaiah 45:19, with the theme: “We cannot seek God in vain”. assured officials and players that God is always ready to deliver and save His people who turn to Him for protection in time of uncertainty.
“The CoronaVirus pandemic has grounded nearly all human activities in the world including football which is your chosen profession. No man can really say what will happen next and this is not the time for you as a footballer to panic, but a time to seek the face of God for protection and for a turnaround in your respective families, careers and for your club, Akwa United”.
Rounding off the prayer and fasting session, the Club’s Secretary, Comrade Omon Bassey, expressed appreciation to God for His love and mercies. He also committed all members of the club, the people of Akwa Ibom State and all Nigerians to God in prayer.
Comrade Omon prayed for God’s blessings and protection, and also for the success of the club in all competitions
Players and officials of Akwa United embarked on break since 20th March due to coronavirus pandemic and more than 30 members of the club were able to connect and interact during the online fasting and prayer session.
