*tells nigerians to exercise at home

The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has announced the immediate shutting down of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium and other sporting facilities within the North West Zone as a result of the fast spreading CoronaVirus otherwise known as COVID-19.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Zonal Coordinator, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris, made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Wednesday March 25, 2020.
“Following the order by Government at all levels and in prevention of the deadly pandemic which is threatening humanity and existence as we have come to know it, we are shutting the gates of Ahmadu Bello Stadium to all Activities,” it stated.
The statement advised all athletes and indeed, those resident in the North West to ensure they embrace social distancing, proper respiratory hygine as well as hand washing to frustrate the deadly virus from winning.
“We also remind all that exercising contributes to overall health as well as boosting of immunity. Hence, they should endeavour to engage in exercise daily within their homes,” it advised
The Zonal office commended Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State for the bold steps taken to prevent the virus from entering Kaduna, while calling on citizens to obey the orders and advisory handed out by him.
Also commended, were the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and the Director Grassroots Sports Development, Dr. Ademoka Are for their commitment at ensuring safety of athletes while pursuing all round sports development.
“We are optimistic that this situation will come to end and will be looking forward to welcoming you back to the prestigious Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna for resumption of sporting and social activities,” it concluded.
