Niger State has recorded cases of Covid -19 virus infection as seven persons have tested positive to the viral infection.
The seven persons are in Minna and Suleja, two major urban and cosmopolitan local government councils of the state.
Commissioner of Health and Health Services, Dr. Muhammad Makun Sidi disclosed that seven people in the state were currently on quarantine for the Coronavirus, also known as Covid -19 virus.
Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday in Minna, Dr. Makun Sidi told newsmen that of the seven people, one was in Suleja while six others were in Minna.
He explained that the patient in Suleja was already exhibiting symptoms of Coronavirus and had been taken into quarantine while one of those in Minna was discovered to have just returned from the United Kingdom
According to the commissioner, the other five cases were persons who have had contacts with someone that had a confirmed case of Corona virus and that all of them had been isolated and quarantined.
“The other five cases confirmed that they had contact with someone who has been confirmed to have Corona virus and was in Minna”
Dr. Makun Sidi said it was after the person was confirmed, that the others volunteered to submit themselves for the quarantine”.
While reassuring of the state government’s commitment to do all the necessary things to curb the spread of the dreaded virus, The commissioner said that the government remains resolute in the curfew of 8:00 am to 8:00 pm slammed on the state.
He maintained that the curfew would go a long way in reducing contacts amongst individuals and thereby check the spread of the ravaging disease.
“We know we live in close proximity with Abuja, and since we cannot stop people from coming into Minna, this is the only preventive measure we can take to ensure that the spread of Corona virus in Niger state is well checked” he said.
The commissioner disclosed that a 28 man taskforce had been constituted by the state government on Corona virus to work round the clock to ensure the Covid-19 virus was checkmated in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane is to head the task force according to the commissioner.
