Confusion As Okada Riders Clash With Customs Officers In Ibadan

It was confusion galore at Ijokodo area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital when some commercial motorcyclists, (Okada riders) clashed with men of the Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Command.
New Nigerian gathered that during the clash, one of the Okada riders was reportedly hit by a vehicle seized  by men of the Oyo/Osun NCS.
Eye witness account said trouble started at the Customs Barracks Ijokodo when the brake of a Truck arrested the men of the command for  carrying uncustom goods concealed with motor spare parts around Fiditi Area of Oyo State failed 
According to the eye witness, it was at this juncture that the Truck descended and hit an Okada rider coming with behind it leaving the said rider seriously injured.
This attracted other Okada riders into the scene protesting the unfortunate incident as well as blaming the NCS men over the accident caused for the concerned  Okada rider.
The eye witness stated that the protest later turned violent resulting in the Okada riders hauling stones on the NCS men said to at this point threatening to shoot some of the protesting Okada riders should they prolong the protest.
Reacting to the incident, the Oyo/Osun NCS command, Public Relations Officer, Mr Abdulahi Lagos  in a statement said normalcy has returned to the area and that the incident has been reported to the police for further investigations.
According to the Oyo/Osun Command Spokesman , “Officers of the Oyo/Osun Command arrested a truck suspected to carry uncustom goods concealed with motor spare parts around Fiditi Area of Oyo State.”, and that ” on getting close to Customs Barracks Ijokodo for further investigation, the brake of the Truck failed and couldn’t entered into the barracks and it headed towards Apete road, it got to a point where it couldn’t move, the Truck descended and hit an Okada rider coming with speed behind the truck, the victim was quickly taken to UCH for treatment.”
“After this unfortunate incidents some Okada riders started gathering  to attack officers with stones and other weapons at the scene, the officers disperse the mob and restore normalcy. None of the victim died as insinuated. Meanwhile, the Command has informed the Police of the incident for further investigation”. ENDS .
