Since the launching of free and compulsory education in Kano State, parents, guardians and other education stakeholders have become more interested in mass enrolment of their kids into primary and secondary schools in order to reap the gesture that was initiated by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on education.
Most of the people that had a chat with our correspondent disclosed that Ganduje's free education programme has been a welcome idea because almost every citizen has a good opportunity to send his kids to public schools without fear of paying money which is not very easy for many citizens due to harsh economic realities.
Furthermore, many interviewees announced that before the inauguration of free education in the state, manu pupils became truants while others lacked interest to acquire education especially at the rural settlements which is a great setback to the grassroots education.
Alhaji Idris Adamu Dungurawa an education promoter told New Nigerian that, "Governor Ganduje's free education programme would help in boosting primary and secondary education from the starting point, and we are certain that in two or three years, Kano would become a giant in the area of education and discipline because all hands are on deck to ensure the success of the project". He stated.
Similarly, a retired classroom teacher, Malam Aliyu Yusuf said that Kano State Governor has brought something very important that would be a good channel towards the development of education which is another landmark achievement that would continue to be respected by Kano citizens of all categories.
In his brief remarks, Alhaji Aso Yahaya Kwa, Education Secretary, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area lamented that since the launch of the free education in Kano, government embarked on the provision of excellent atmosphere in the state's public primary and secondary schools where rehabilitations and renovation is taking place at some dilapidated learning buildings which is a testimony that the programme would yield good results.
Our reporter who visited some of the renovated schools buildings reports that many blocks were refurbished by some well meaning citizens in order to contribute towards the greater success of the free and compulsory education in Kano State.
Some rural settlers said that Kano Governor is gradually actualizing the free education programme in the state.
