February 20 every year is set aside as World Day of Social Justice by the United Nations to promote gender equality, indigenous peoples and emigrant’s rights.
New Nigerian Newspapers spoke with Comrade Tanimu Salifu, Chairman Liberties Organization Yobe State Chapter on the significance of the day.
Comrade Tanimu Salifu said, ” the world social justice is being observed on 20th February every year to promote gender equality, indigenous peoples and emigrant’s rights.
“The day also focuses on achieving the goals of full empowerment and social integration. It is also a day to raise voices against social injustice and to remove barriers regarding gender, race, inequality, religious discrimination among others.”
Comrade Salifu said that they would use the day to sensitize the public on the need to report any violation of their rights to concerned organizations such as FIFA, Nigeria Bar Association, Liberties Organization, Civil Society organizations among others to ensure that Justice has been done.
He explained that, it is necessary to uphold the principles of social justice adding that without reporting their complaints, no action can be taken even if they were cheated.
