The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has urged the security agencies in the state to intensify efforts toward the quick release of the abducted Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Alhaji Jibrin Okaku Giza.
Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House made the call on Monday while reading the House resolution after Hon. Daniel Ogazi, the deputy majority leader raised the issue under matters of public interest in Lafia.
Hon. Balarabe sympathized with Nasarawa State government, the permanent secretary’s family and Keana local government over the kidnapped of Giza.
While commending the efforts of the security agencies in combating crimes so far in the state, he urged them to step up efforts in order to ensure the speedy release of the permanent secretary unharmed.
“What is happening in our state is actually uncalled for as security is the primary responsibility of every government.
‘The kidnapped of the permanent secretary is unfortunate and up till now there is no communication between the kidnappers and the government or the permanent secretary’s family.
‘We share the pains with His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule and the family of the abducted permanent Secretary over the unfortunate incident.
‘As we also pray for the quick release of the permanent Secretary and unharmed”, said the Speaker.
Also speaking, the Minority Leader of the House, Hon Danladi Jatau (PDP- Kokona West) while sympathizing with the government and family of the permanent secretary urged Gov. Abdullahi Sule to sign into law a bill prohibiting kidnapping and other related offences recently passed by the state assembly.
On his part, member representing keana constituency Hon Mohammad Omadefu who expressed worried over the incident prayed God for the safe release of the perm. sec.
During the monday’s sitting the House also deliberated on a Report of the House Standing Committee on Judiciary, Ethics and Privileges on a bill for a Law to Provide for Witness Protection Law and for other Matters Connected Therewith.
The Speaker slated Feb. 23rd for the passage of the bill.
It’ll be recalled that Alh. Jibrin Okaku Giza was kidnapped in his House at early hour of Sunday, Feb. 16th 2020.
