Hate Speech,VAW: CITAD Trains Journalist In Adamawa

Focused on creating awarness on hate speech and violrnce against women in Nigeria, Center for Information Technology and development CITAD with support from National Democratic Institute NDI ans USAID, has train journalist to track and counter hate speech.

Addressing participants at the workshop in Yola, CITAD Countering Hate Speech project coordinator Hamza Ibrahim, said the objective of the training is to create awareness on countering hate speech in Nigeria.


According to him, hate speech has been a major source of concern in Nigeria.


Ibrahim pointed out that, CITAD’s list of hate speech stretch from insulting people’s religion, abusing people’s ethnic background: expressing contempt for people on the basis if their place of orgin among others.


“We want to ensure that hate speech does not take us where Kenya, Uganda and other African countries are”, he stated.


Ibrahim therefore, appeal to Journalist to enlighten and promote tolerance among citizens to reduce hate sppech and VAW.


New Nigerian Newspapers reports that participating journalists were drawn from across print, electronic and online media.
