Kano citizens are anxiously awaiting the outcome of today’s Supreme Court judgment between Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) and Abba Kabir of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which is the last stage of the Kano governorship election petition that is being challenged by the PDP candidate since the declaration of Governor Ganduje as the winner of the 2019 governorship election.
Our correspondent who monitored how the daily activities were going across Kano State, reports that both the APC and PDP supporters are anticipating victory from the judgment which is the final action on Kano governorship election.
Some citizens prayed that all would be well after the ruling to enable the state to remain peaceful till 2023 when another political wind would be blown.
Furthermore, most of the supporters that had a chat with New Nigerian described today’s judgment as a tool for democratic progress where by a gubernatorial candidate fulfils the mandate to file a petition claiming election malpractices to election tribunals and appeal courts which ended in Supreme Court in some cases.
Similarly, some of the politicians and current affairs commentators expressed that the Supreme Court would look upon what the tribunal and Appeal Court did and make more consultations in an orderly manner before making the last judgment.
In addition, some of the interviewees said that the Kano governorship election was fair because already the inconclusive polls determined who is the real winner especially when the defeated party participated during the inconclusive election like what had happened in Kano State.
All commentators called on Kano citizens to remain calm and law abiding even after the ruling, and commended the security agencies in Kano State for their role in keeping the state safer in any situation.
