Member Representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency, in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Dr. Usoro Akpanusoh has bagged an award as the “Legislator for Year 2019” by the Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom Council.
The award was conferred on the Lawmaker on Thursday at his Uyo office by the Chairman of Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Idongesit Ashimeri.
Leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel had on November last year organized its annual Press Week with Comrade Etorobong Inyang of the Edge News as chairman which selection committee after thorough review on the Legislator’s performances, considered Akpanusoh advantaged over some of his contemporaries.
Presenting the award, Comrade Ashimeri said Dr. Akpanusoh, has remained pragmatically consistent and focused in the discharge of his legislative functions, stressing that the Lawmaker’s stellar performances at plenary, Constituency briefing, oversights as well as human capital development and humanitarian services are creteria which he merited the award.
Responding, Dr. Akpanusoh commended the leadership of Correspondents’ Chapel and the entire leadership of Akwa Ibom State Council of NUJ, led by Comrade Amos Etuk, for always standing on the side of truth and remaining active partners in the process of giving the people a required pattern of leadership for Nigeria’s unity and sustainable development.
“Members of the Fourth Estate of the realm are well organized professional body and have stood firm in the gap for the populace when the need arises.” Akpanusoh stated
Dr. Akpanusoh, however charged journalists in the state to be objective in their reportage as against what is usually published in the Social Media space by some paid agents who lack basic journalism ethics.
He also urged NUJ leadership to find proactive measures in order to tackle and penalize those indulging in sabotaging journalism profession through the use of Android phones.
