NPFL: Sunshine Stars Dream Continental Ticket

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State

Premiership side Sunshine Stars of Akure said they’re focused on picking one of the continental tickets this season.

Ondo State Commissioner of Sports, Akindotun Olubunmi Owanikin, told NNsports that though the team is not in a comfortable position on the League table, but they will definitely surprise their opponents at the end of the League.

” At the beginning of this season we set a target to pick one of the continental tickets and we’re not relenting on our efforts to achieve that goal.

” It’s true that we’re ocupying the seventh position on the log but there are still many matches to be played and am optimistic that with the transformation we’ ve brought to the club and the support of the state government, we will achieve the dream.

” I know that some people will try to dismiss our optimism but I advice them to wait till the end of the season and see whether we will achieve that objective or not which I believe is achievable”, he sounded confidently.

On the recent problem in the club which saw some Ex- players of the Akure based team disrupting training because of none payment of salaries, he explained that the issue has been sorted out and the team now ready than ever before to challenge for honours in the country’s domestic league.

“The problem was caused by some disengaged players who tried to mobilise themselves and cause disaffection in the club. But thanks to the magnanimity of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu who released funds for their entitlements to be settled.

“Right now, there is stability in  the team as well as the Sunshine Queens and the Rising Stars and  we’re focused on coming at least third on the League table and we believe it’s achievable’,, he stressed.
