Completion of Ibom Science Park Project now renamed Ibom Blue Sea Science and Technology Park in Akwa Ibom State which will be done under Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement will cost about about 500M Euros.
Mr. Chen Xuewem, Chairman of China Blue Sea International Holdings, a partnering firm from the Republic of China, made this known during the flag-off of the reconstruction of the park in Uyo on Thursday.
“China Blue Sea International Holdings will invest about 500M Euros in the project which will comprise international complexes using the smart city approach,” Mr. Xuewem revealed.
Xuewem who said that the Ibom Blue Sea Science and Technology Park would provide a platform for Nigerian youths to be gainfully employed, promised to abide by the laws of the land in its operations.
He appealed to government and the people of the state to ensure the safety of the Chinese nationals and their business and property rights are guaranteed.
The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel while flagging-off the reconstruction of the Ibom Blue Sea Science and Technology Park, assured people of the state and critical stakeholders in the project that the state government would discharge its commitment to ensure the timely completion of the project.
He said the project has undergone a lot of sensitivity analyses to guard against failure of any kind, noting that richest people and corporations in the world today revolve around the business of ICT.
The Governor commended former Governor Victor Attah, the progenitor of the project for his visionary leadership and foresight and expressed appreciation to Akwa Ibom people for their enormous support to his administration.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Iniobong Essien described the science park as an incubation hub for actualisation of the dreams of our youths, as it will redefine the curriculum of our school system.
He said science and technology are the tools of industrialisation and that the project will serve as a major boost to the industrialisation agenda of the State Government.
In his remarks, the former Governor, Obong Victor Attah who initiated the project about 13 years ago said he was fulfilled to witness the flag-off of the reconstruction of the Science Park.
He lauded Governor Emmanuel for revisiting the project and advised the political class to always work towards completing ongoing projects inherited by them for the good of the people.
The Ibom Blue Sea Science and Technology Park is designed to accommodate the science park, workshops, studios, a 5-star hotel, a university of technology, nursery and primary school, showrooms residential quarters and a power plant amongst others and the phased reconstruction work will be completed between three and four years.
