A’Ibom Govt Begins Aviation Sensitization Programme For Secondary Schools

Towards commencing Aviation School in Akwa Ibom, the state government has flagged off a 3-day Aviation Sensitization programme for select public secondary schools in the state.
In his address, the Education Boss stated that the State Government intends to make Akwa Ibom State an Aviation hub in the West African sub region and is committed to opening a lot of opportunities for the youth in the Aviation Industry. 
Speaking on the occasion in Eket, Eket local government area of the state, Commissioner for Education, Prof. Nse Essien said that  intended to mainstream the state educational system and train local manpower.
According to Prof Essien, “The first step is what we are doing today which is to expose our young ones in SS2 and SS3 to career opportunities that exist in the Aviation Industry”

He disclosed that the instructors to carry out the assignment were all professionals in the Aviation Industry and worthy of note was the fact that the team is led by a female pilot of Akwa Ibom State extraction. 
The career counselling he said, will start from Eket LGA and will extend to all other local government areas in Eket federal constituency with students drawn from all schools in Eket federal constituency covering Eket, Onna and Ibeno local government areas
He expressed optimism that the exercise which promises to be very exciting would motivate several students to want to explore the numerous opportunities available in the aviation industry.
In her remarks, the team leader, Captain Susan Ekpoh said the aim of the sensitization exercise was to educate the kids on the various opportunities available to them in aviation industry with the purpose of cultivating local content for the industry. 
The sensitization programme she added was hinged on  long term goals where students will consider a career in aviation through motivation and proper guidance. 
Dr. Umana Umana, Chairman State Secondary Education Board in his goodwill message said the aviation industry was very rewarding, safe and interesting.
He encouraged the students to listen attentively and take serious the relevant information being passed on to them. 
New Nigerian in Uyo, observed that earlier in the day, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Nse Essien received in audience in his office, a team of Aircraft Pilots of Akwa Ibom extraction led by Captain Susan Ekpoh who are the facilitators of the program.
