A Junior Secondary School, (JSS 1) student and one other person were on Tuesday night shot dead by by gun-totting robbers at Olomi area of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
New Nigerian gathered that one other person was seriously injured by the gunmen during the incident.
According to sources in the area, the 14-year old boy was an apprentice in a mechanic workshop at Olomi community in addition to being a student of Abba Alfa secondary school in the area.
Our sources said the armed robbers who were three in number invaded the area on a commercial motorcycle trailing a business woman identified as Alhaja in the community said to be returning from a business trip.
The three armed robbers were said to have trailed the Alhaja in her car until they accosted her very close to the mechanic workshop where she was attacked and robbed by the gunmen while about to alight carting away her jewelry, bags and other items
Sensing that those at the Mechanic workshop were aware of their operation, the armed robbers shot sporadically into the air and later to the mechanic workshop to avoid being arrested by the people in the area
New Nigerian learnt that it was during the sporadic shootings into the mechanic workshop that the JSS 1 student and one other were hit by the bullet and died while many vehicles at the workshop were seriously damaged .
The Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), for Oyo state Police Command confirmed , SP Lawrence Gbenga Fadeyi confirmed the robbery attack, saying efforts are on by the Command at arresting the armed robbers.
Emphasizing that Oyo state Police Comman would ensure that the hoodlums that committed the robbery were arrested, SP Fadeyi urged the people of Oyo state to always furnish the police with relevant information that would prevent criminality in the state.
