*claims peace has returned to area

The chairman of Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Barr. Etetim Onuk, has expressed deep sadness over the news of an unfortunate attack along the Oku Iboku/Odukpani axis of the Calabar-Itu Highway by gunmen suspected to be from Ikot Offiong.
Reportedly, several  lives have been lost as well as that of a  policeman on duty.
Also, several people were reported to have  sustained various degrees of injuries as a result of the crisis, sources close to the head bridge revealed.
As a result, the social media space has been awash with alarming and in some cases false and misleading stories of a sustained clash between the boundary communities of Oku Iboku, Itu Local Government Area and their counterparts in Odukpani, Cross River State.

“It is therefore pertinent to set the records straight in order to avoid panic and unnecessary tension.
While I condole with the families of the deceased persons, I make bold to say that the area is now safe.
” I therefore urge every citizen of Itu Local Government Area, as well as commuters plying Calabar-Itu Highway; to go about their normal business as the situation had been brought under control by security agents”
It would be recalled that the crisis between Ikot Offiong and Oku Iboku has been a long lasting problem without a lasting solution.
Politicians have been accused as been the brains behind this age long crisis according to our source.
So many families are still squatting for several years on both sides of the divide.
Attempts to nip the problem in the bud  by the Cross River State Government and its counterpart from Akwa Ibom has remained a mirage.
