Kaduna Assembly Set To Embark On Oversight To 23 LGAs

In its preparation to receive the year 2020 budget of the 23 local government councils, the Kaduna State House of Assembly has appointed three adhoc committees to embark on oversight function to the 23 councils on the year 2019 budget performance.

This was made known by the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Aminu Abdullahi Shagali on Tuesday 19th October during plenary sitting.

Abdullahi Shagali while making the announcement, said the house has set the committees for the oversight function one for each senatorial district of the state.

Part of the committees mandate is to investigate the compliance to the local government laws of the state including other statutory operational guidelines and legislation in terms of signatory to accounts, spending limit, council meetings, finance and general purpose committee as well as security.

The committees are to also find out the revenue position and other financial aspects of the local government areas, request for clearance and approvals as well as the relationship between the executive and the legislative arm of the government.

The adhoc committees set according to the three senatorial zones are be chaired as follow, zone one is to be chaired by Hon. Emmanuel Bako Kantiok ( Zonkwa Constituency), Zone two to be chaired by Hon. Idris Abdullahi (Lere East Constituency) and zone three which will be chaired Hon. Muktar Isa Hazo (Basawa Constituency).

However, each committee was drawn  with the inclusion of nine other members and a sectary and are expected to submit their reports back to the House in three weeks time.

Speaking with Assembly correspondents in an interview, the chairman House Committee on Information, Mr. Tanimu Musa said the aim of deligating the adhoc committees to go on oversight to the 23 local governments was to checkmate the affairs of the local governments to see if they are doing exactly what is expected of them from the appropriated funds provided in their budget in  2019.
