Kaduna State Government, led by Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai, has collaborated with Arla Foods and Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in investing 15 billion Naira to empower future generations.
The Special Adviser Councillor to Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, Jimi Lawal, disclosed this on Monday, at Government House premises in Kaduna.
According to him, the goal is to develop a world, class grazing reserve that aids in centralizing the activities of herders in one community to ensure maximum economic benefit is derived from the cows owned by many cattle rearers through making use of their many products to boost their revenues.
Jimi, however, said “the programme is anchored on three partners, the Miyetti Allah, the Arla foods and Kaduna State Government without each of the three partners, it would have been impossible to have this programme.”
He spoke on importance of the programme, stressing that it is to benefit herdsmen families that travel from around the country from Kafanchan, Zaria to the South West.
“They are important to this government, this is the firm believe of this government to raise their cattle pastures, their cattle are important to this government for every one to be empowered, and achieve their best in whatever field they choose for themselves.
“The second is the economic empowerment, Kaduna State goals is to give priority to the youth from 25 to 40-45 if possible, they are the ones we believe we should empower the next generation to make our country more prosperous, those who are coming behind us, who have no chance to have proper jobs or businesses in life.”
Speaking further, he said, “right now, Nigeria imports 90% of the milk and protein meat that we consume. We have rarely solved the problem of chickens and eggs with the establishment of Olam factory along Kaduna – Abuja expressway, it is the same importance that the government attaches to this programme,” he said.
He noted that, “this will stop the herdsmen from being attacked, it will give them their own empowerment and it will also stop the importing of meat and milk for Nigerians to consume.
“The project will significantly reduce the importation of milk products and ensure self sufficiency and food security in milk and beef”, he assured.
He explained that the programme is costing the government about 15 billion Naira.
He appealed to them to take the programme very serious, it is one of the important thing things the government has done, they had to borrow about 10.5 billion Naira out of 15 billion Naira from Central Bank of Nigeria and the government has given guaranty to CBN to be repaid.
In a remark, the Chairman, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Haruna Usman, expressed gratitude to the State Governor for his kind gesture to the their people.
He urged the people to embrace the good initiative of the Governor to class grazing reserve that aids in centralizing the activities of herders in one community to ensure maximum economic benefit is derived from the cows owned by our many cattle rearers through making use of their many products to boost their revenues.
He pledged their support to the great achievement and development to the state and the country at large
