A Canadian based Nigerian Association of Youth Adults, (NAYA) has donated medical equipment, furniture, dressings and general hospital consumables to the Federal Medical Centre, (FMC) Bida in Niger State.
The items worth several millions of Naira included anaesthesia machines, surgical equipment, Intensive Care Units, (ICU) equipment, examination and surgical beds, assorted wheel chairs, crouches, general hospital consumables among other things.
Nigerians of various callings living in Canada set up the Non-Governmental organization which has since 2013 donated medical equipment and consumables worth over $46 million to various health facilities across the country.
Convener of the association, Arch Bishop Samson Mustapha said NAYA seeks to partner health facilities in Nigeria particularly to close the yearning gaps in the provision of assistance in medical equipment and health care delivery.
Arch Bishop Samson Mustapha noted that in view of the precarious situation in the country’s health care delivery institutions, it was proper for governments to declare state of emergency in the health sector.
Commissioner of Health and Hospital Services in Niger state, Dr. Mohammed Maku Sidi who stood in for governor Abubakar Sani Bello and received the items at the handing over ceremony, commended the association for being so thoughtful and magnanimous.
Dr. Maku Sidi the items donated would go a long way to pluck areas of deficiencies in equipping and funding of the recipient hospital.
The commissioner Niger state would continue to seek for intervention of such organizations as NAYA and spirited individuals and corporate bodies to leverage on their goodwill and benevolence to speed up service delivery to citizens.
The Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger state council of traditional rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar commended the good gesture from NAYA.
He urged the management of the FMC Bida to make good use of the items donated for the good of humanity.
President of the association, Shola Ogbola had earlier explained that the gesture was to compliment government’s efforts at providing needed hospital equipment.
Chief Medical Director at the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, Dr. Aminu Usman had while commending the donors, assured that the items donated would be put to judicious use.
