Stop Seeing Yourselves As Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa Or Fulani But As Nigerians – Sultan of Sokoto

By; BAYO AKAMO, Ibadan
The Sultan of Sokoto, and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar on Saturday charged Nigerians to stop seeing themselves as Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa or Fulani but as Nigerians.
Sultan Abubakar stated this in Ibadan on Saturday
Speaking at the grand finale of the National Conference of the Muslim Students in Secondary Schools (NACOMSISS) and national quiz competition entitled, “Nigerian Muslim Youth and contemporary challenges: Towards a new education strategy”, held at the University of Ibadan, Sultan Abubakar said it is time for Nigerians to use our diversity to make Nigeria a better country”
Sultan Abubakar stressed that in as much as there is no doubt in the fact  that there are many ethnic groups, tribes, languages and faiths in Nigeria, the time has come for Nigerians to make use of the differences  as a source of inspiration and development and not source of chaos and problems for the country.
“I will like to thank all of you for making it to this program. One of you made a powerful comment. And it is ethnicity. How people look at one another by looking at their ethnic background. On this issue of ethnicity, Almighty Allah created all of us and He make us as Yoruba, Fulani or Igbo. But, we should use our diversity to make Nigeria a better country”, he said
The Sultan added, “we should use this to make Nigeria a better country. We should not criminalise any ethnic group. When you say a particular ethnic group is terrorist. That should be criminalised. The problem in Nigeria is our educational status. Many people are not educated and education brings development”.
On the recent emergence of some  women as overall best students in the recent convocations across the country , the Sultan advised that  women should not as a result of these feats think of being in competition with their husbands while at home.
The programme was graced by the National Amir (President) Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Dr. Taofeeq Yekinni, Chairman, Muslim Community in Oyo State, Alhaji Kunle Sanni, Chairman University of Ibadan Muslims Community, Professor Kuta Yahya, Chief Imam University of Ibadan, Professor Abdulrahman Oloyede and the Deputy Gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the 2019 general elections, Professor Abideen Olaiya .
