Education Gets Lion Share In Kadu a 2020 Budget With Over N42bn – Commissioner

The Commissioner Ministry of Education, Dr Shehu Makarfi has said that the 2020 budget of  education sector  tops the list in getting  the lion share of the budget.

Makarfi stated this during  budget  defence  of the ministry  at Kaduna State House of Assembly.

According to him,  over N42 billion would be spent by the ministry  in the year 2020.

He said over N26 billion would be spent   for capital projects ” that means the institution would  enjoy new face lift interms of infrastructure”

While the sum  of over N10 billion  would be spent on the payment of   salaries and over  N12 billion would be for the recurrent expenditure.

Makarfi further   assured the citizen’s  that the security of institutions  is one of the paramount issues and government  has already  approved for the employment of additional security personnel for  the institutions,   as well as improve  the number of matrons taking care of the institutions and to improve the road network and infrastructure,
” This is  part of what form the capital  budget”

Meanwhile  Rector Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Alhaji Mohammed Abdullahi presented budget of Over N3billion.

Abdullahi said the sum of  N1 billion would be spent on capital projects, while the sum of N1.7billion would be spent as recurrent expenditure.

While speaking  on their major  priority, he said ” we want to have more facilities such as equipment for our  laboratories and workshops  , we want  go into  accreditation for  our programme” he added.

He further appealed to the house to look at the proposals  carefully and give them approval.

The  Executives  Secretary Kaduna state  Scholarship Board,   Alhaji Hassan Rilwan  sought Assembly’s intervention to assist  the board to do some upward reviews on some critical aspects of the scholarship so as to be able to run the board better.

“we are  trying to make sure that funds are provided for  to  improve  on the universities that  our students are going outside the country,

“We are not just going to throw   them to just any university because they  are outside the country”

Adding that the board is also  trying to remove subjectivity so that only qualify the indigent of the state can be the priority for the scholarship  awards.

According  to him  the criteria for the scholarship is going to be for Kaduna citizens either by residency or birth.

“There is going to be a minimum critaria for marits the one for disabilities and the one for certain special needs of the state”

The Chairman  also commended the commitee for understanding the needs for scholarship  and understand the need for education so its makes our job easier.

Kaduna State House of Assembly has also stressed its determination towards making  move through Legislation framework that would improve the living condition of the citizen’s.

The Chairman, House Committee on Education, Alhaji  Yusuf Liman stated this   during budget defence by ,ministry of Education.

Liman said  that the Legislative arm would  continue to consider an importance policies which will be  aim at moving  the State forward.

He said that the Assembly has passed different laws and resolutions that would  improve educational sector in the State.

The Chairman  therefore assured that   Ministry of Education is getting proper considerations during 2020 budget that will improve its quality of in the state.
