Budget Defence: Kaduna State Seeks Inclusion Of Ginger, Maize In Export List

The Kaduna State Government is working towards including Ginger and Maize as its product for export in the year 2020 budget.

This was made known when the Ministry of  Agriculture appeared before the House Committee   of Agriculture of State  Assembly  to defence its budget.

Speaking during  the defence, the permanent  secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Alhaji Sabisu Sani said the vision  of the ministry is inline with that of the  Nigerian government which is geared towards improving  the agricultural productivity creating employment and reducing poverty as well as improving nutrition and ultimate creation of  harmonious progressive society.

According to him, going by  the closure of the bounders by the federal government in which there is no longer allocation of funds for importation of food, makes the ministry to begin to look  at other areas to improve farm production as well as the income of the state.

He said the ministry’s activities is focusing on both livestock production and crop production and atracting investments in collaboration with relevant government agencies and we play our role in supporting whatever iniative all other agencies will have that will facilitate agricultural productivity in Kaduna State for general wellbeing, job creation,  better lifes for people that are engaged in agricultural  activities within the agricultural space in the state.

Alhaji Sani added that the budget components on the capital side is intended to facilitate anchor borrowers programme with N1.5 billion and hope it’s going to attract other financing support that would double or triple that amount.

“When you look at government programmes also in the livestock diary where we have MoU collaboration with Armla where investment Flow of about 50 million  Dollars going to that sector, then you can see that the value of the budget that is in the agriculture  is very substantial and then the object of the new livestock regulatory agency that is created will also see improvements on the quality and the regulations so that we can have a wholesome production in the state” he added.

In his remarks, the Chairman House committee on Agriculture, Alhaji Hassan Abdukadir said the committee was satisfied with the improvements in the ministry of agriculture .

According to him, the assembly is working  to ensure that all the plans of the state are realised.
