A MACK Truck with registration: Rivers BNY 137 XA, heading towards Calabar, Cross River State lost control and ran into a fuel station at Urua Ekpa Junction, outskirts of Uyo metropolis in Akwa Ibom State, killing three people and injuring others on Wednesday, October 23, 2019.
The driver of the truck who apparently disappeared from the scene immediately after the accident was no where to be found as at the time of the report.
An eye witness who identified himself as Okon Etim said the incident occurred at about 7.15 am today when the truck driver was trying to avoid a commercial tricycle (Keke) rider who recklessly crossed the road
According to Etim, the inability of the driver of the heavy duty vehicle to effectively apply its breaks on sighting the sudden crossing of the Keke may have caused him to lose control as he was left with the only option of veering into the fuel station which had a sizable crowd of commuters standing by the fringes to catch buses to their various destinations.
The victims who were yet to identified as at when filing this report were taken nearby mortuary, those who survived with injuries were rushed to hospital for intensive care.
