Nigeria’s apex bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) on Tuesday rolled out support packages for 334 local Sesame farmers in Niger State to boost productivity of the commodity.
The bank through it’s anchor browsers loan scheme is giving out credit facilities to Sesame farmers across the state to encourage them to enhance their crop yields with fertilizers, insecticide, agro chemicals, sprayers, sacks and other farm inputs.
National Present of Sesame Farmers of Nigeria, Mukhtar Mamoodu said Sesame seeds have good markets in the country and for international sales.
He asked states and the federal governments to assist local farmers of the valuable seeds to expand their crop yields with support and assistance.
Secretary to Niger State Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane who spoke through Musa Rogo, Permanent Secretary (Special Duties) in the office of the SSG, commended Sesame farmers in Niger state for their unity and good sense of business to boost the production of the highly valuable seeds.
The SSG said the state government was determined to encourage farming amongst its population particularly of cash and food crops that would galvernise economic empowerment and development of the state.
He said the state government would support mechanization in the production of agricultural produce through giving support and the necessary push for modern farming techniques for dry season irrigation farming to reap the bounteous benefits outside rain fed agriculture in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government said the present administration in the state was determined to ensure that farmers in the state adopt mechanization just as he stated that the state would prioritized the production of key agricultural produce like Sesame and other high value seeds, cereal and legumes.
Each of the beneficiaries received agrochemicals, bags of fertilizers, sacks sprayers, seeds and other agricultural inputs besides the loan facility.
