The Chairman of Karu Local Council, Honourable Samuel Akala, has emerged as the best performing chairman in Nasarawa State.
Akala, a graduate of Economics (Edu) emerged having polled the highest votes of (41.6%).
The people of the state had on Monday, October 20 nominated him and other eight (8) chairmen for the maiden edition of the #ChairmanOfTheYear award based on their people-centred policies and strides in office.
He was trailed by Maigoro, the chairman of Keffi, with 19%; while Otto (Nasarawa) polled 12.4% of the votes to sealed the 3rd spot.
The remaining votes of 27% was shared among other nominees with the exception of Odasco (Eggon) who failed to poll even a single vote.
The other nominees were Adamu Adi (Keana) Samuel Meshi (Akwanga) Abubakar Abbas (Wamba), Kurki Kazi (Kokona) and Maifata of Lafia local area of the state who doubles as ALGON Chairman.
A total of 14,115 users across the state participated in the online poll which ended at 5:00am prompt of Wednesday, October 23.
Akala, who has been in office since May 2018 will be presented with the award on Friday, October 25.
A former aide of immediate past governor, Akala has initiated policies and programmes that has made Karu a point of reference in the running of local government in Nigeria.
This has earned him many accolades from within and across the state.
The top focus of his administration is the security of lives and property of the residents, which according to him was non negotiable.
Another focus is the provision of basic social amenities notably potable water. The administration has recently approved projects that would ensure access by rural dwellers.
The fight against corruption and other shady practices has also been prioritized. This has save the treasury of thousands of naira.
Speaking to Journalists on the Award Akala said the award will spur him to redouble his efforts.
“I’m humbled and encouraged by this recognition.
“I thank everyone who has participated in this voting exercise, majority of whom I did not know in person.
“I also thank Karu LGA citizens who freely gave me their mandate to administer the Local Government.
“This recognition will further spur me to redouble efforts on delivering on my mandate. I assure all and sundry that I will remain focused.
“Finally, I thank the Nasarawa Mirror for initiating this assessment. We are all grateful as Chairmen”, he said.
