All is now set for the announcement and swearing in of twenty commissioner designates in Niger State following the completion of the screening of all the twenty shortlisted persons by the state legislature.
On Tuesday at plenary, the House endorsed six additional names as submitted by the state governor, Abubakar Sani Bello to bring to twenty, the names of nominees screened by the lawmakers.
Though there were two petitions against the nomination of two commissioner designates from Suleja and Bosso, (Barrister Mohammed Tanko Zakari and Mamman Musa Bosso), the legislature had accordingly referred the complaints to the House’s Public Petition, Ethics and Privileges Committee where the committee advised prime stakeholders from the two constituencies to intervene and resolve the contending issues raised by the petitioners both of who are sitting member of the Assembly.
In response to the petition from Suleja against the nomination of Barrister Mohammed Tanko Zakari, the House appealed to the executive arm of the state to correct political imbalance in subsequent political appointments of persons from the area to reflect equity and fairness across the three political zones in Suleja.
The petition from Bosso was resolved by the intervention of key stakeholders from the area including the deputy governor of the state who is not from the area but waded in to safe the situation.
At the Tuesday’s plenary, the six nominees screened were Tasala Fati Marafa Ibrahim from Munya, Rifkatu Adamu from Gurara and Dr. Abubakar Baba Aliyu from Katcha, Engineer Ibrahim Panti from Lavun, Barrister Mohammed Tanko Zakari from Suleja and Mamman Musa from Bosso.
Tasala Fati Marafa Ibrahim is a former lawmaker in the state and so the House simply asked her to take a bow and leave in the spirit of comrady.
Mamman Musa is a former commissioner under the present administration and was also recognized by the House and asked to take a bow and leave.
With the conclusion of the screening exercise by the legislature, the stage is about set for the announcement and swearing in of the nominees as commissioners and members of the state executive council any time soon.
