The International Federation of Women Lawyers, (FIDA) in Niger State has said that it is networking with governments and other relevant agencies on issues pertaining the protection of the rights, privileges of women and children in the state to place such agendum on the front burner.
Niger’s FIDA executives said the federation was interested in championing advocacies for the advancement of the rights of women and children to raise consciousness on the need for the society to appreciate and acknowledge the special positions of women and children.
The leadership of the federation were guests to the Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Bawa Wuse in his office where the Chairperson of FIDA in the state, Barrister Christiana Barau said the federation was determined to ensure that adequate laws on the protection of the rights and privileges of women and children were in place to guarantee a better society.
Barr. Christiana Barau noted that FIDA would continue to mainstream with establishments to sensitise and raise awareness on what was proper, legal and right as far as women and children were concerned.
Christiana Barau appealed to the Legislature in the state to assist the federation to formulate legislations that would strengthen the legal system and for the furtherance of the protection of the rights of women and children.
The Niger state FIDA Chairperson, Barr. Christiana Barau, however lamented that many women were ignorant and not aware of their rights just as children’s rights were being denied in several circles.
Speaker of the Niger Assembly, Bawa Wuse commended the federation for playing it’s role in raising awareness on the statuses of women and children in the country.
He enjoined FIDA to continue to press and champion the issues that require legal action diligently in order to strengthen the country’s legal system.
