President Muhammadu Buhari has assured the National Assembly that all ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) would comply with the October target for the defence of their estimates in the 2020 appropriation bill.
This was in response to the ultimatum set by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawman on Friday, that all MDAs must have by October ending completed the defence of their budgets, or may not have funds appropriated for the 2020 fiscal year.
Speaking during the official unveiling of the 9th House of Representatives’ legislative agenda, the Senate president said “Only the window of October is availanle for defence, so any minister who chooses to travel abroad would not have a second chance after that period”, the Senate President warmed.
Buhari, who was represented at the event by Minister of Environment, Dr. Mohammed Abubakar, noted that failure of the MDAs to meet target of the National Assembly would be explained as undermining the parliament, adding that ” we are happy with what the legislature is doing, and we urge that they should continue”.
The Senate President in his goodwill message said the two chambers of the 9th National Assembly were working in unison. “We have a common mission to take Nigeria to greater heights in the next four years”, he said.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila in his remarks said the road map the House is setting for itself was ” an ambitious agenda we want to achieve”.
While calling for support “in the joint task of rebuilding Nigeria”, Gbajabiamila said the House has not wavered on its determination to introducing reforms in its business of lawmaking.
