British Govt Pledges Support For Nigerian Army

The British Government and Defence Council has promised to assist the Nigerian Army (NA) by providing necessary supports and logistics to effectively prosecute the counter-insurgency war in the North-East.

The new Defence Adviser of the United Kingdom (UK) to Nigeria, Mr. Paul Warwick, disclosed this when he joined the delegation of the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, to pay a courtesy call on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja, on Thursday.

Mr. Warwick, pointed out that the Nigeria-British relationship is a special mutually-beneficial relationship built on a strong foundation, over the years. He stated that the two countries have profound historical links and forged economic ties, among other things, that have helped both countries achieved socio-cultural growth in diverse aspects of their economies.

“We are here basically to initiate discussions that will not only assists the Nigerian Army and other security security record a grand accomplishment in fighting insurgency, together with other security challenges and crimes, but also engage relevant stakeholders in the Nigerian government, to fast-track accelerated economic development for the Giant of Africa,” he said.

Responding, Lt. Gen. Buratai, lauded the continuous military assistance and other necessary aids provided by the British government and it’s Defence Council to the Nigerian military, pledging to continue nurturing NA’s mutual partnership with the British Army.
