Minister of Water Resources, Alh. Suleiman Adamu has described Jigawa Water and Sanitation indices as worst in the country, a situation which calls for state of emergency.
Speaking at the Govt House Dutse while on courtesy visit on Governor Abubakar Badaru, he lamented the situation which calls for urgent steps to address.
” The indices of 6.7 per cent of Jigawa hygiene and sanitation situation is alarming, and a source of concern which often causes a lot of hazards to our health, a situation which calls for concerted efforts”.
Responding, Governor Badaru blamed conditions associated to hygiene and sanitation situation in the state on inadequate facilities.
He therefore, declared a state of emergency on the sector for its improvement.
” In the past, we used to be very bad in hygiene and sanitation, but if you review it today, the indices have improved upon our level of commitment “.
He promised the Minister that all hands must be on deck in arresting the situation.
He solicited collaboration from the federal government, donor agencies among other stakeholders to overcome the situation.
