The tournament organised by a former professional squash player is not only to give back to the society, but to also regenerate the game from the grassroots at the Squash Courts of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
This year’s edition which is the 3rd in the series will run from 14th to 16th of November 2019.
The championship will have under 13, under 16 and over 45 in attendance.
Chairman, Ex- Squash Pro in Diaspora Championship, Femi shittu said that they have put in place lots of arrangements to make this year’s edition bigger and better.
He disclosed that more ex professional players have come on board to put ideas together to develop the game to meet up with world standards.
“We want to bring back the lost glory of squash in Nigeria. During the time we were active in the sport there were lots of tournaments to keep athletes busy but that has disappeared hence the need why we thought it wise to organise this event annually.
“The competition started in 2017 with a few of us but as the years went by, more and more ex- players are identifying with the course to change the game for the better in Nigeria ” he said.
Shittu who has commended the Boye Oyerinde-led Nigeria Squash Federation for the giant strides the sport is recording so far, called on corporate bodies to support the programmes of the federation to raise worthy ambassadors.
“The Ex- squash pro in diaspora has continued to produce talented players for the country’s national teams winners who will smile home with medals, trophies, squash kits and cash prizes for their efforts at the end of the day,” he submitted.
