Niger Assembly Summons Heads Of Security Agencies Over Rising Crime Wave In Minna

Unrelenting activities of undesirable elements in parts of Niger state particularly in Minna, the state capital would form the main agendum as Niger State House of Assembly summons all heads of security agencies in the state to appear before it on Thursday to field questions from the lawmakers.
The lawmakers at plenary on Tuesday received motion of urgent importance as the legislator representing Bosso constituency, Hon. Malik Madaki Bosso who, while drawing the attention of the legislature, listed a number armed robbery attacks in Minna where armed men waylaid innocent citizens and robbed them of huge sums of money and other valuables.
Hon. Madaki Bosso noted that as responsible representatives of the people of the state, the lawmakers must call the attention of the state government to press the security agencies in the state to scale up their task of ensuing security to lives and property of all law abiding citizens.
The lawmaker said series of armed robbery attacks in broad day light in Minna alone in the recent past were worrisome enough for the state government to rise to the new wave of challenges.
He listed the ambush laid by some armed gangs who separately waylaid staff of some government departments/Ministry who had withdrawn millions of naira and accosted them in broad day at gun points to snatch the monies main for overheads costs.
Hon. Madaki Bosso also recalled the robbery attacks in Minna along the Kpakungu roundabout where a gang of armed men robbed a staff of the state Ministry of Justice and made away with about =N=10 million during a broad day robbery attack.
Another robbery attack listed by the lawmaker was the broad day light attack on a Bureau de Change operator who was trailed from a bank by a gang of armed men to his shop at the Minna Central Market where the robbers forcefully collected =N= 4 million from the victim.
He also listed the robbery attack on a man along with some widows who were returning from a bank with huge sums of money meant for distribution to members of an association when they were accosted by armed men along the “Kotun Bola” area of Stadium road in Minna and dispossessed them of the money they had withdrawn from the bank.
He said the lawmakers must resolve to invite the heads of security agencies in the state to table the rising security challenges in the state capital especially and to register the fears and apprehension of citizens over the worrisome developments.
Other series of blood chilling crimes perpetrated by criminals include the killing of two commercial motorcyclists in Maitumbi area where one of the victims was beheaded and the second person hacked to death in two separate incidents within a little over one week in October.
Similarly, another young man was killed at Dutsen Kura – Hausa area, metres away from the Headquarters of the state Police Command when a notorious, ex convict hacked down a young man to death during a petty argument on the street.
In accepting the motion as a matter of public importance, the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Bawa Wuse directed that all heads of security agencies in the state should appear before the Assembly next Thursday to answer questions on the state of security in the state in the face of recent developments.
