In continuation of its on going war against cyber crimes and corruption, the Ibadan zone of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC,) on Monday arrested 17 suspected internet fraudsters.
According to EFCC , the arrested suspected internet fraudsters comprised of five undergraduates claiming to be students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti and 12 others.
The Commission stressed that the 17 suspects were arrested on Monday by operatives of the Commission in Ado Ekiti.”following meticulous consideration of intelligence reports detailing their alleged involvement in internet fraud and other related offenses.
EFCC Ibadan zone maintained that its operatives having conducted preliminary investigations to ascertain the merits of the allegations against them and after establishing substantive facts, “the EFCC sprang into action and effected the arrest on Monday.”, adding that ,”while five of the arrested suspects claimed to be students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, others said they were into various vocations.”
According to EFCC, some items used in perpetrating the crime were recovered from the arrested suspected internet fraudsters “and registered as exhibits to be tendered in court and that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
