Forms For Real Madrid Academy Port Harcourt Goes On Sale October 10

The forms for a chance to be among the lucky 150 children to make it to the Real Madrid Academy, Port Harcourt would be on sale from October 10, 2019.

Acting Sports Commissioner of  Rivers State, Dr. James Enebeli disclosed this on Tuesday when conducting delegates of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Triennial Delegates Conference round the facility.

Enebeli who is the Permanent Secretary Ministry of  Sports, explained that the academy is being run in collaboration with Real Madrid FC, Spain.

“Real Madrid Academy is  about to put on sale admission forms from October 10. The management has said that 150 to be admitted in first stage.

“To cater for students from 6- to 17 years, It will run for nine months for those who succeed,” he disclosed.
He explained that the Real Madrid Academy was  conceived and constructed by Governor Nyesom Wike in his bid at all round discovery of talents at the grassroots.

“Phase 1 of the academy which has been completed has a basketball court and FIFA standard football field.

“The main building on its  first floor has executive lounge, classrooms and office of the manager.

“The ground floor has a standard gymnasium, medical personnel and other facilities, changing rooms,” he said.

According to him, the phase two which is under construction would host boarding facilities.

He further explained that  it is in partnership with Real Madrid who will run the academy for three years before handing over.

“Some coaches have already gone to Spain for training,” he added.

When asked if the academy will only admit indigenes of Rivers State, he said in the magnanimity of the governor, he has reserved 30 per cent slot for all Nigerians, while 70 per cent is for Rivers State indigenes.

“The Governor declared publicly, 70 per cent Rivers States, 30 per cent others,” he clarified.
