SWAN: Second Coming Of Sirawoo Would Be Honourable – AIPS President

The President of AIPS  and ace sports broadcaster,  Mitchell Obi has expressed optimism that the second tenure of the President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Mr. Honour Sirawoo will witness tremendous success.

AIPS President expressed this in a goodwill message to the SWAN Triennial Delegates Conference, Port Harcourt 2019 on Monday October 7, 2019.

“I want to thank all of you for braving the odds. I want to believe that the second coming of our brother would be honourable and that it happened in a city which cultivates excellence,” he said.

He described the conference as a turning point for SWAN, while calling on its members to remain united.
“I stand as a stakeholders in Nigerian sports, I stand as representative of world sporting press.
“This is my first congress held in a chamber were laws are made and I am happy to be part of it.
“This conference should be a turning point. I want to use opportunity to send message to sports journalists all over Nigeria to close ranks. You have to support the leadership and create balance,” he advised.
Obi charged SWAN members to see sports as a unifying factor and income source  for the country.
“I want to believe we must see sports not only as a force of changing dynamics of society, but as a force that can do things to make Nigeria rich. 
“That is why when we came to a garden of Port Harcourt. We want to cultivate firmly and help build agenda that can build sports. Clean sports free of doping, match fixing and stay clean of rules of engagement,” he stressed.
He said that in AIPS they have had an opportunity of having AIPS Secretary who was a woman, therefore, he advised SWAN state chairmen to give women more roles in their respective states.

“I want to advise you SWAN chairmen to integrate women, not just in coverage events, but at the executive levels,” he said.

It would be recalled that AIPS was born 95 years ago in Paris.
